I can't determine just when the “Oval P” was initially used depending on my work but I will make this observation. The Oval P evidence stamp is just found on barrels which have a Design and style 3 barrel tackle which is situated within the remaining facet in the barrel. This posture was not frequent right until 1910 for your Design 1892 rifles. No barrel that has one of the earlier barrel tackle models or leading of barrel positions are marked using an “Oval P” evidence.
